Cranleigh Pétanque Club
Our friendly club is based in the grounds of Cranleigh Village Sports and Social Club. We have members of all abilities who play the sport of Pétanque, known to many as ‘French boules’. Both social and competitive games are arranged for our members from Cranleigh and the surrounding areas. Pétanque members must be full members of CVSSC on joining and as such may play socially on any day of the week throughout the year. Our regular club sessions are on Thursday afternoons from 2-4.15 pm and on Saturdays from 10.30 until 12 noon, often continuing after a refreshment/lunch break into the afternoon. We have recently introduced a Monday evening at 6.30pm "Beginners and improvers" session. All club members are welcome to come.
The club’s committee organises mêlées and tournaments within the club and we have members who represent us in matches at local, regional and national levels. The club is affiliated to Pétanque England, the sport’s national body, and at regional level to the Southern Counties Pétanque Association.
Anyone who is interested in learning about the game is welcome to join us at the above times. Boules are provided for you to try out free of charge. Please contact one of the people below to arrange a visit. There is no obligation to join the club but if, after three trial sessions, individuals wish to continue, application should be made to join the Pétanque Club. Adult annual membership is currently £20 with a reduced fee for juniors. As stated above, you would also be required to join CVSSC - current annual membership £30 with an additional £5 joining fee.

FURTHER INFORMATION
The total membership of the Pétanque Club is now 70, with between 20-36 players turning up at our twice weekly sessions, eager for a game! With the cooperation of our hosts, CVSSC, we have extended our playing areas as we were often at the limit of being able to accommodate all who wished to play. This additional facility will enable us to attract further new members and allow us to host regional competitions for players from the south of England, which will benefit both our club and CVSSC.
We regularly enter a Cranleigh team in the local ‘North Downs League’, playing teams in Surrey and Sussex ‘home and away’ and also have a team in the regional ‘Southern Counties Pétanque Association League’, playing teams from Surrey and along the south coast.
Previously Cranleigh Pétanque Club members have fought through rigorous regional qualifying competitions to emerge successfully to allow them to represent our Southern Counties Region at the Regional Finals. Our team in 2021 returned from Leicestershire with Pétanque England silver medals behind the eventual winners from the London Region.
Individual members also enter regional and Open Competitions, ‘flying the flag’ for Cranleigh PC and achieving some very creditable performances. From time to time, opportunities arise for members to take part in visits abroad; enjoying foreign hospitality and engaging with members from local pétanque clubs playing social matches and competitions.
From its inception with a small number of founder members in 2009, the club has grown steadily and we believe we now have a strong basis on which to further strengthen the club in the years to come.
