Cranleigh Petanque Club

Our friendly club is based in the grounds of Cranleigh Village Sports and Social Club. We have members of all ages and abilities and play the sport of Petanque in a fun and social yet competitive atmosphere. The club currently has over 40 members from Cranleigh and the surrounding villages.

It is possible to play on any day of the week throughout the year on our two terrains (8 pistes) but the majority of members meet on a Thursday afternoon from 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm and on Saturdays from 10.30 am until 12 noon and continue after a social refreshment break.

We play tournaments within the club and compete at regional, national and European level.

Anyone who is interested in learning about the game is welcome to join us at the above times. All equipment can be used free of charge. There is no obligation to join the club, but after three trial sessions, application should be made to join the Petanque Club. Annual membership is currently £15.00. You would also be required to join CVSSC at an annual membership of £25.00   and an initial £5 joining fee.

2018 CRANLEIGH PETANQUE CLUB REPORT

We are pleased to report that the club has had a reasonably successful year.

Membership is over 40 and our funds are healthy.

As agreed with CVSSC, we are planning to extend the terrains this year as we are at our limit of playing area. This will enable us to attract new members from the village and host regional matches which of course will benefit our club and CVSSC.

This year we entered two teams in the North Downs League; Kites were 2nd in Group B and Kestrels were 5th in Group A. In the NDL group play-offs Kites won and were placed 3rd in the league.

Cougars came a very creditable 4th in the Southern Counties League and entered European competitions. We lost in the 1st round of the European Cup and in the 2nd round of the European Plate.

Members entered Regional and Open Competitions and did not disgrace the name of Cranleigh, with medals won and the contents of wallets boosted.

We again plan to enter the Jersey Open, as much for the long weekend away as great competition and friendship from players from many countries.

We believe we now have a strong basis from which to build the club further and to enjoy 2019, our 10th anniversary year.
